The Default Settings dialog allows you to set items that will be used for an entire slideshow. Note that when you load a previously saved script, these values will change to reflect those in the script.
The Output Directory edit box contains the directory where dvd-slideshow will store the created video file. The default is the /tmp directory, but it is better if you select a directory in your home directory. The Output Directory is saved and restored between gdvdslides sessions. The Output Directory value is not reset when starting a new slideshow.
The Theme File edit box allows you to select a theme file that will be used for the entire slideshow. This value is strictly optional. Themes are usually stored in /opt/dvd-slideshow/themes. Themes can be obtained from the dvd-slideshow download web page.
If you select a small JPEG file as your Logo File, that file will overlay each slide of your slideshow in the lower righthand corner of the slide, much like those station identification logos you see on television.
The Border Size control allows you to create an optional border around the slides. The border size value is the width of the border, in pixels.
The Slide Default Duration control allows you to chose a default slide duration (in seconds) for every slide you add from this point on. When you select an image from the slide list in the main window, you can make individual slide duration changes away from this value.
The Output Format radio buttons allow you to chose between the American NTSC standard and the PAL standard, which much of the rest of the world uses. The default selection is NTSC.
The Audio Format radio buttons allow you to chose how the audio will be encoded into the video. AC3 is the default. If you chose Flash as a rendering format, MP2 will automatically be selected.
The Video Quality radio buttons allow you to chose a video quality. High quality is currently experimental.
The Rendering radio buttons allow you to select the type of video to be created. The default is DVD, but Flash is popular for web videos.
The Ratio radio buttons allow you to select the ratio of the width to the height of the created video. 4:3 is the old television standard and 16:9 is a new widescreen standard. You should chose the ratio that mostly closely matches the ratio with which your images were created.
The Terminal to use for compilation allows you to change the terminal to use when gdvdslides invokes the dvd-slideshow command. The pulldown edit box has the three most popular terminal programs, with appropriate options. The default is
- gnome-terminal -e
If you are a KDE user, you should select the default KDE terminal
- konsole -e
If you are having problems with compiling a slideshow, you may need to see all the output dvd-slideshow puts out to the terminal. In that case you should select xterm
- xterm -hold -e
The terminal you chose will be saved and restored for your next gdvdslides session.
The Web browser to use for help edit box allows you to chose the web browser you want to use to display this help. The default is Firefox. The web browser you chose will be saved and restored for your next gdvdslides session.
