Tutorial

The Transitions/Other dialog allows you to add non-image related slides to your slideshow script. The items you can add are Transitions, Audio tracks, Title slide, Titlebar slide, Background selection, Musictitle slide and Videofile.

Transitions

The Transitions section is used to add transition effects between slides. There are four transitions supported: fadein, fadeout, crossfade and wipe.

Transitions

The fadein transition is used to go from a background to an image. The image "fades in" at the rate indicated by the fadein duration. This transition is generally either the first transition of a slideshow, or it is preceded by a "fadeout".

The fadeout transition is used to go from an image to the background. The image "fades out" at the rate indicated by the fadeout duration. This transition generally precedes a "fadein", but may be used at the end of the slideshow to end the video.

The crossfade transition is used to go from one image to another, at the duration rate indicated. The first image gradually disappears while the second image gradually appears.

The wipe transition moves the current image in the direction indicated (left, right, up, down) at the duration speed. As the first image disappears in the indicated direction, the next image moves in after it, in the same direction.

Audio

The Audio section is used to add audio files as soundtracks to the slideshow. You can add more than one audio track to the slideshow. If the files are added to the same track, they will play consecutively. If the files are added to different tracks, they will play simultaneously.

Audio

The Audio file edit box contains the name of the audio file you wish to add. Click on the button to get an open file dialog.

The Track box allows you to chose an audio track on which to play this file.

If you check the Fade in check box, the audio will fade in from no sound to full sound in the number of seconds indicated by the Duration value.

If you check the Fade out check box, the audio will fade out from full sound to no sound in the number of seconds indicated by the Duration value. This will occur if the audio track ends, or if the slideshow ends.

Title

The Title section allows you to display a slide consisting of whatever background you have chosen (the default background is black) with a title centered over that background.

Title

The Title box holds the title to be displayed. The title will be displayed for the number of seconds indicated in the Duration box.

TitleBar

The TitleBar section allows you to display a slide consisting of whatever background you have chosen (default is black) with an upper and lower title in two semi-transparent bands over that background. The TitleBar will be displayed for the number of seconds indicated in the Duration box.

TitleBar

The Upper title contains the text that will be displayed in the upper portion of the slide.

The Lower title contains the text that will be displayed in the lower portion of the slide.

Background

The Background section is used to define what the background for various slides will look like. The background can be black, white, or a JPEG image. The background will be displayed by itself for the number of seconds set in the Duration box. After that time, the background will be displayed for the duration of whatever slide overlays it.

Background

If the Image radio button is checked, a background image file can be placed in the Image box. You can bring up an open picture dialog by clicking on the button to the right of the box.

If the Color radio button is checked, the background will be either black or white, based on which of those two radio buttons is checked.

MusicTitle

The MusicTitle section allows you to display a slide consisting of whatever background you have chosen (default is black) with the information about the audio being used. The lettering for this information is always white, so it will show up better if the background is dark. None of the music information is required, but at least one of the fields should be filled out. The MusicTitle slide will be displayed for the number of seconds indicated in the Duration box.

MusicTitle

The Song box contains the title of the song.

The Artist box contains the name of the artist or group playing the song.

The Album box contains the name of the album the song came from. A bug in dvd-slideshow prevents the Album information from being displayed.

VideoFile

The VideoFile section allows you to embed a video clip inside of your slideshow. You can use the video clip's audio track, or chose to ignore it. You can also do a fade in and fade out of the sound if you wish. If you ignore the warning at the bottom of this section, your slideshow will not compile, so please pay attention to it.

VideoFile

The AVI Video box contains the file path and name of the video file to embed. You can bring up an open file dialog by clicking on the button to the right of the box.

If the Use audio check box is checked, the audio from the video clip will be used in your slideshow. The fade in and fade out controls will also be enabled.

If the Fadein check box is checked, the video's audio track will fade in from no sound to full sound in the number of seconds indicated in the Duration box.

If the Fadeout check box is checked, the video's audio track will fade out from full sound to no sound in the number of seconds indicated in the Duration box.
